The Delhi Police busted three cricket betting rackets and arrested 11 people in this connection. All the betting rings were involved in running stakes on the Asia Cup final between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The rackets were busted separately by police teams from the
central, southeast and west districts.
A police team attached to the Kamla Nagar police station arrested Om Parkash, 40, Mohit Sharma, 24, Rahul Gupta, 31, Naresh Kumar, 32, and Satish Singh, 25 from Paharganj, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central) said. Nineteen mobile phones, two laptops, one TV and three notebooks were recovered from them, he added.
The second betting ring was busted by the Moti Nagar police with the arrest of three people. Kanwal Jeet Singh, 32, Nawal Kishore, 25 and Boby Sharma, 26 were running the racket from a car to escape the law.
V Renganathan, additional CP (West), said, “They wanted to earn a quick buck and were thinking to make it big in the world of cricket betting. Initially, they had rented out a house to run the racket but there was a constant fear of a police raid. So, they shifted their operations to a car.”
In a separate incident, Virender Singh, 38, Sombir Singh, 27, and Tushar, 28 were arrested from Pul Prahladpur and a laptop, a TV and five mobile phones were recovered from them, Ajay Chaudhury, additional CP (South-East), said.
“The odds are fixed by big players who run their operations from outside the country. On the basis of the odds, the bets are taken during the match. After the match is over, profit and loss are calculated by a specially designed software known as ‘Back 'N' Lay Professional’,” said Chaudhary.
