Dick Harter, former Hornets coach, died of cancer Monday night at his home in Hilton Head, S.C., according to the Portland (Ore.) Tribune.
Harter also coached at the University of Oregon and was assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach.
Harter, from Pottstown, Penn., spent many years in the NBA, and was the first coach of the expansion Charlotte Hornets, going 28-94 in 1 1/2 seasons.
